| 1978 | Marcia Ferreira da Costa begins tutoring children of the community in her living room |
| 1981 | Twenty children are learning to read |
| 1993 | Forty students and eight infants are showing up in her living room. |
| 1995 | Marcia moved her efforts into a neighboring catholic church. |
| 1999 | Maria do Carmo, the future vice president of UMPMRS, began offering arts and craft classes for unemployed mothers. |
| 2002 | UMPMRS was officially founded. |
| That same year with the help of favela nova a French non profit, UMPMRS purchased a building that would serve as daycare and administrative offices. | |
| 2004 | “Uma Tigolo para Cheyenne” a project that would purchase seven new house for needy families in the community was accomplished. |
| 2005 | A second building is purchased and “Oficina do Saber” an afterschool program is established. |
| Margherita, an Italian non-profit, opens a medical clinic, in UMPMRS headquarters. | |
| 2006 | UMPMRS’ efforts have reached over a 100 families offering daycare and after-school programs, as well as basic health care and other assistance. |
| Mundo de Informatica, a computer center is established through partnerships with Developing Minds and CDI. | |
| 2007 | Crianças Esperança enhances the existing curriculum in both the daycare and Oficina through age appropriate music, capoeira and art classes. |
| Artisenato pra Mulheres Desempregados, a program to teach unemployed women saleable crafts begins with an inaugural class of twelve women. |
