Board of Directors
- President: Marcia Ferreira do Costa
In 1978, at age 12, Marcia began tutoring younger children in the community in her small house. Fifteen years later in 1993, she had 40 students and 8 babies and moved into the catholic church near her house which had more space. In 2000, Marcia could no longer use that space, so together with other board members, they rented a house, which today is our center and headquarters. Marcia directs the daycare, coordinates the after-school program and leads the organization in all of its activities.
- Vice President: María do Carmo de Farias Barbosa
In 1998, Maria do Carmo began giving crafts classes to unemployed mother’s in the community. In 2002, when UMPMRS became official, she was elected to be the vice-president and financial director of the organization. Since 2002, she has been working tirelessly directing the daycare and managing the ONG’s finances. In 2007, she returned to working with the Women’s Crafts Program, coordinating the project.
- Director of Social Events: Jacione Marinho
In 1999, Jacione began working with Marcia and Carmina, helping to celebrate special days and plan events, such as mother’s day and christmas. When the ONG was created, she was elected to be director of events. Jacione plans all the field trips, parties and special events making sure the holidays don’t pass without presents and cake for all the children. She is now also secretary of the Margherita’s doctor’s office- ensuring the the children’s health needs are met.
- Director of Reforms: Ademoricio Barbosa
“Dadinho” has been involved with the daycare since 2000 when we moved into our house. He managed the entire reform of our center, which now stands 4-stories high. He helps maintain and reform all of our physical space. Currently, he is working on the reform of our newest space, which will house the senior citizen program.
- Director of Social Assistance: Barbara Olivi
Since 1999, when Barbara met Marcia and Carmina and joined the project, she has been an integral part of the project existence. Always bringing groups, tourist, friends or acquaintances, to see the project, she continues to fundraise and promote the organization. She manages to meet the budget each year, raising money for salaries, food, and other monthly expenses. Without Barbara, the organization could not be what it is today.
- Vice-Director of Events: Sebastiao Farias Vederal
Since the very beginning of our work in Rocinha, Sebastiao has been involved in helping with all the events and projects. Always available to lend a hand, Sebastiao works together with the Director of Reforms and the Director of Events to make sure everything stays on track.

Christiane Rocha: Lawyer, Fundraiser and Coordinator of the Criancas Esperanca extra-curricular project.
Alanna Campus: Fundraiser and Coordinator of the Mundo de Informatica project.
